Lean Teams Unlock AI for Smarter Marketing
Mailchimp and Spark Novus collaborated to guide lean marketing teams in designing a connected AI marketing ecosystem, anchoring Mailchimp at the center while integrating generative tools to strengthen strategy and campaign execution.
Mailchimp: A Marketing Platform Built for Growth
Mailchimp is a leading all-in-one marketing and automation platform that helps businesses build audiences, create and automate campaigns, personalize messaging, and measure performance from a single place. Millions of organizations worldwide use Mailchimp to connect with customers across email, SMS, landing pages, and ads, backed by intuitive tools and data-driven recommendations.
Recently, Mailchimp has embedded AI features directly into its workflow to accelerate campaign creation and optimization, including generative content tools, predictive insights, and smart segmentation that help marketers work faster without sacrificing strategy.

The Situation
Mailchimp has expanded its AI capabilities across content generation, segmentation, optimization, and performance insights. As AI becomes more embedded in the platform, the opportunity is no longer just feature adoption. It is ecosystem design.
Lean marketing teams are experimenting with tools like ChatGPT, Canva, Zapier, and Descript to accelerate production and automation. While these tools increase speed, they can create fragmentation if not anchored to a central platform. Strategy, execution, and performance measurement begin to drift apart.
The opportunity was helping marketers design a connected AI marketing ecosystem with Mailchimp at the center and generative tools functioning as accelerators rather than standalone solutions.
The Work
Mailchimp partnered with Spark Novus to design and deliver a structured AI workshop for the marketing community. Spark Novus worked closely with Rhett McLemore, Partner Development Manager at Intuit Mailchimp, and Jocelyn Hardy, Group Manager of Mailchimp Academy at Intuit Mailchimp, to build a program that blended strategy, platform depth, and applied execution.
The workshop was structured around four integrated pillars:
Strategic Foundation: Spark Novus introduced an AI adoption framework anchored in business outcomes such as growth and customer experience, helping lean teams define a north star before selecting tools and positioning Mailchimp as the central operating hub within a connected AI marketing ecosystem.
Mailchimp Native AI and Integrations: The Mailchimp Academy team led a live demonstration of AI features embedded within the platform, including content assistance, audience segmentation, workflow efficiencies, and performance insights. The demo also highlighted how Mailchimp integrates with tools such as ChatGPT and Canva, reinforcing how generative content and design workflows can feed directly into campaigns without breaking the system.
Generative Accelerators Around the Hub: Spark Novus showcased how tools such as ChatGPT, Canva, Descript, and Zapier accelerate ideation, creative production, video editing, and automation while keeping campaign orchestration, audience management, and measurement anchored inside Mailchimp.
Custom GPT and Repeatable Workflows: A live segment demonstrated how to build simple Custom GPTs for repeatable marketing tasks, illustrating how structured prompts, governance guardrails, and human-in-the-loop practices enable lean teams to scale AI responsibly without fragmenting their stack.
Each layer reinforced one principle: AI delivers value when it is integrated into the platform that drives campaigns and measurement.
The OUTCOMES
The workshop clarified how AI should fit into the day-to-day work of lean marketing teams. The focus was not on producing more content. It was on designing smarter workflows inside Mailchimp and connecting external tools without breaking structure.
As the session progressed, the discussion became practical. Attendees explored how generative outputs move into campaign builds, how automation sequences should be structured, and how AI can support planning without replacing judgment. The emphasis stayed on integration and execution.
Participants left with:
A clearer understanding of how to keep Mailchimp at the center of campaigns, audiences and automation.
Practical models for using ChatGPT, Canva, Descript, Zapier and custom GPTs as accelerators that support the platform rather than fragment it.
A stronger grasp of how to connect content creation, workflow automation and measurement inside one system.
More confidence in applying AI within defined guardrails instead of through isolated experimentation.
The broader takeaway was simple. AI delivers leverage when it is integrated into the system that already drives campaigns and performance.
“This was our first AI-focused session for the community, and the engagement reflected how important this topic is. Collaborating with Spark Novus allowed us to bring together platform capability and strategic perspective in a way that supported how marketers are thinking about AI inside their broader ecosystem.”

Explore an AI Workshop for Your Team
Spark Novus partners with teams to design interactive AI workshops that cut through noise, clarify priorities and ensure adoption strengthens execution rather than distracts from it. The result is aligned leadership, faster decision velocity and disciplined AI integration tied directly to business performance.
If this resonates, it may be time to explore an AI workshop for your team.
-
Lean teams should begin with Mailchimp’s embedded AI features that support campaign creation, audience segmentation and workflow automation. Starting inside Mailchimp ensures that planning, execution and reporting remain connected within one platform before introducing any external accelerators.
-
Mailchimp already provides AI-powered capabilities across campaign development, optimization and audience insights. External tools such as ChatGPT or Canva can enhance ideation and creative production, but Mailchimp can remain the central system where campaigns are built, launched and measured.
-
Generative AI can assist with content drafts, messaging refinement and creative concepts. Once finalized, campaigns, segmentation and automation are executed inside Mailchimp, allowing targeting, orchestration and reporting to stay unified within the platform.
-
Mailchimp workflows provide structure for campaign management. AI-generated content can be reviewed, edited and aligned with brand standards before deployment, ensuring consistency while benefiting from faster production.
-
AI adoption should strengthen existing marketing objectives within Mailchimp. Leaders can evaluate impact through improved campaign build efficiency, streamlined workflows and engagement performance using Mailchimp’s reporting and analytics tools.
